852 Royalty-Free Audio Tracks for "Diesel Horn"

Synthesized train horn using moderately manipulated french horn ensemble library. The train sounds like it is coming toward the listener through pitch and volume effects. I removed the panning i originally made it with so you can manipulate that to your liking. This is offered with cc0, but if you can attribute, please do.

I made this for a secret agent type game in sound design class.

Recorded using a audio technica at891r with a scarlett solo preamp then cleaned up using izotope rx8 advanced to remove some ambient noise. No need to credit if you don't want to. A diesel train flushing out the condensation from a particular valve, as i am told. Sounds like electricity sparking or something. It was quite loud, my gain was set extremely low, enough that i didn't pick up any of the road traffic with cars passing a few feet behind me. An alarm i made in sylenth by distorting a sine wave mixed with a triangle wave. I then notched stuff out in eq, distorted it further and added reverb.

The microphones are facing across the street to the el tracks which cross diagonally across the block at this point. The curvature of the tracks causes the squeaking of the wheels. Trains heading into the loop (north) tend to travel more slowly than those heading south. Cars accumulate at the intersection of harrison and wabash to the south (left). Time of recording was 5:41pm.
